The Westchester Department of Health was reporting 315 new COVID-19 cases out of 6,659 tests administered throughout the county on Wednesday, Feb. 3, as the number of newly reported infections continues dwindling.

As of Thursday, Feb. 4, the county was monitoring 8,764 active COVID-19 cases, down from 9,391 the day before.

There have now been 95,989 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Westchester since the pandemic began last year out of more than 1.8 million tested. The 5.3 percent positive infection rate is among the lowest in the Hudson Valley.

New COVID-19-related fatalities were reported in Westchester bringing the total to 2,115 - 1,948 county residents - deaths since last March.

There are currently 521 COVID-19 patients being treated in Westchester hospitals, down from 569 a week ago, and 588 two weeks ago.

Latimer said that at the two facilities the county is running vaccination sites have been busy, with the health clinic in White Plains vaccinating 5,054 Westchester residents, while more than 22,000 have been vaccinated at the County Center, where they've been administering approximately 1,000 doses daily.

In total, 27,447 vaccinations have been administered at the two sites.

"That number compared against a million Westchester residents is not that impressive," Latimer said. "But as that number rises, we're looking for a comparable drop in the number of infections.

"At some point in time we're going to look for the number of people vaccinated to exceed the number of people who have been infection," he added. "The value of the vaccination will be shown in the number of infections."
